Cumann Cispheile Mhaigh Cuilinn is pleased to announce that, following the Cruinniú Ginearálta Urghnách on Monday 3 October, the club has elected to formally change its name from Moycullen Basketball Club to Cumann Cispheile Mhaigh Cuilinn.
Tá áthas ar Chumann Cispheile Mhaigh Cuilinn a fhógairt gur bheartaíodh ag Cruinniú Ginearálta Urghnách ar an 3ú Deireadh Fómhair ainm an chlub a athrú go hoifigiúil ó Moycullen Basketball Club go Cumann Cispheile Mhaigh Cuilinn.
This does not mean, by any stretch, that people need Irish to participate in our club and we welcome members new and old, from all corners of the globe with Irish, English or neither! Basketball is our first language! We are however, proud to be the the first club from the Gaeltacht to reach the top tier of Irish basketball, having entered the Men’s Superleague in 2010, in which we still compete (fixtures available here).
Ní ionann sin agus líofacht sa teanga le bheith mar baill den chlub. Cuireann muid fáilte roimh chách, ó gach cúinne den dhomhan le Gaeilge, Béarla nó ceachtar acu! Is í an chispheil ár gcéad teanga! Tá muid thar a bheith bródúil gur muid an chéad chlub ón nGaeltacht gur éirigh leo an leibhéal is airde a bhaint amach le Sársraith na bhfir i 2010, comórtas ina bhfuil muid fós ag imirt (clár cluichí anseo).
The Irish language is an important part of our club’s past present and future and we believe the change of name, to what is after all the village’s official name, is the right thing to do as we look to play our part, alongside the many other tremendous clubs in the locality, to help keep the Irish language vibrant in the community…..at all levels of fluency from a cúpla focal to liofa.
Tá ár dteanga tábhachtach mar chuid de stair, todchaí agus saol an chlub sa lá atá inniu ann agus dár linn gurb é athrú ainm an chlub go dtí an leagan oifigiúil Gaeilge an rud ceart le déanamh in éineacht le clubanna iontach eile sa cheantar chun ár dteanga a choinneáil beo agus bríomhar…ag chuile leibhéal ó cúpla focail go líofacht.
