SuperLeague Returns

The long awaited start of the 2019-2020 SuperLeague season is just around the corner as we host neighbours and friends Maree in the first game of the new season this Saturday 21st September at 7:30pm in the Kingfisher.

As with all derbies games this is sure to be a cracking contest and if the two games last year are anything to go by, the fans of both teams will be in for a real treat. The two teams know each other inside out and having played in last weekends Donie Greene Memorial tournament they will be really looking forward to kicking off the season this weekend.

As it’s not only the first game of the season but also the Galway derby be sure to get in to the Kingfisher early as space will be at a premium….

SuperLeague Season Tickets are still available but numbers are limited, details on the tickets are here.

After a good pre-season which finished last weekend with the Donie Greene Memorial Tournament in Oranmore, the team are really looking forward to get down to business proper on Saturday.

Our two new Americans have settled in well and while we obviously can’t play them at the same time they do give us different options should our coach John Cunningham wish to do so.

Grant Olsson out of Lincoln University in Missouri is in his first year as a pro and he has settled in well with the team over the last few weeks. Physically very strong and with a great first step, Grant will be a great weapon for the team during the season.

Daniel Vila comes to use from John Hopkins University and is with us courtesy of the Sport Changes Life foundation; where athletes can further their education in Ireland while also continuing to play sport. Daniel has adapted really well to the style of play and hopefully he’ll be a great addition to the team.

The two lads have done well in pre-season and while it’s no substitute for the real thing, it has allowed them to adjust to the Irish style of play and to FIBA in general after their four years in College.

Dylan Cunningham is back after a great year last year and he is joined by his brother Kyle also coming off a super season and Joseph Tummon, who had another smashing campaign last year. Patrick Lyons is also back and raring to go after a season that was cut short by injury. All four players bring some much needed experience to the team.

Connor Curran also returns after his best season to date as does Joshua Marvesely who put in some outstanding performances in his rookie season. James Lyons returns after having a great U20 Europeans with the Irish team and he’s joined by fellow U20 Player Dara Kenna who had a great year last year.

Paul Kelly & James Connaire are also fresh off some great performances from Ireland in the U18 Europeans in the summer. Daniel Arimoro also returns after a superb U18 season last year and they will be joined by the rookie of the team and fellow U18 National Cup winner Gerard Davoren.

We also have some other changes in the team with Cian Nihill retiring after a great career & Stephen Tummon currently unavailable, the two lads will be ably replaced as we welcome back both Stephen & Paul O’Brien into the fold this year.

SuperLeague action also means the return of the Nuark3PointChallenge at the 1st quarter interval; if you’re in early enough you get your ticket for free as you enter the court. And fans at the game also have the chance of winning a fantastic McCambridge’s Hamper in our game day raffle which takes place at the 3rd quarter interval…

And last but by no means least SuperLeague Saturday also means the return of our half-time game with one of our underage teams. At this weekends game it will be our U10 Boys who started back training two weekends ago and are really looking to the game and their chance to play in front of a big crowd so please make sure to support them……

It promises to be another great year of SuperLeague basketball and one that we can’t wait to get started. See you all Saturday!!!!!
