Superleague National Cup

Our SuperLeague team are in action this coming Saturday 22nd October when we host Belfast Star in the 1st Leg of Round 1 of the Men’s National Cup.

Our U12 Boys are also in action as they play an inter-squad game at half time of the game.

Star are always a tough matchup and with seasoned veterans in Paddy McGaharan, Conor Johnston, Fearghal Toner & big man Keelan Cairns coupled with some young talent in Liam Pettigrew and Adam Ryan they are always a tough outfir. This year they have two Americans in Greg Womack & Eric Benedick. We also welcome back Fionntan O’Connor who spent a year with Moycullen when he was based in Galway

The Belfast outfit also have a new coach this year; Darren O’Neill, who coached Joseph, Kyle and the Irish Men’s U20 Team at a very successful Europeans in Greece over the summer.

SSE Airtricity Moycullen will be looking to kick start their performances and get their season back on track. After a good opening day win against Kubs they have gone down to 3 defeats. While the team may have lost those last 3 games, coach John Cunningham will be optimistic that a win in the Cup and a good run in the league isn’t far out of reach. In each of the last 3 games, SSE Airtricity Moycullen have shown glimpses of what they can do, it’s a matter of sustaining that consistency and play over 40 minutes.

Both teams will really fancy their chances and will look to lay a solid foundation for the return leg in Belfast on Saturday 19th November. If last years games are anything to go by, this game should be a cracker.

SSE Airtricity Moycullen & Moycullen Basketball Club would like to sincerely thank Belfast Star who just this week agreed to swap the 2nd leg of the Cup game and our League game to allow us have a home Superleague game the same weekend as our 50th Anniversary Celebrations
