Irish U16 Boys Team

ireland_topCongratulations to James Lyons, Paul Kelly & Mark Convery who have been selected to represent Ireland at the U16 European Championships which take place from the 11th August to the 20th August 2016 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
A fantastic achievement by the lads, their parents & families and also for their club teams, the club & the wider Moycullen community.

All at Moycullen Basketball Club are very proud of their achievement and would like to wish them the very best of luck over the summer in the lead up to the tournament and especially at the Europeans themselves.

James Lyons

Unfortunately for James, he suffered a bad injury the eve of the departure for Bulgaria and was unable to travel with the team. Really tough on James but we know that you’ll return stronger & more determined than ever from the injury

The two lads made the team of 12 after a close on two year process that began in October 2014 when they were selected on an initial 30 man U15 Development Squad. Joining the two lads on the squad are:
Max Amadasun, Dublin Lions
Kris Arcilla, Templeogue
James Beckon, Blue Demons
Cian Heaphy, Neptune
Scott Hannigan, Neptune
Eoin McCann, Kubs
Jack Moran, Sligo All Stars
David Murray, Neptune
Darragh O’Sullivan, Neptune
Matthew Rooney, Queens

The team have been drawn in a group that includes Israel, Macedonia, Hungary, Scotland & England. Obviously the Scottish & the English game are two to mark down in the schedule but playing perennial powerhouses Israel will be a great test for the lads as will Hungary & Macedonia. The results from the 1st round games is as follows:

11/08 vs England 50 – 65 loss
12/08 vs Scotland 76 – 59 win
13/08 vs Hungary 66 – 90 loss
15/08 vs Macedonia 59 – 71 loss
16/08 vs Israel 58 – 61 loss

The lads play Luxembourg in the first classification game for 17-24, today Thursday 18th at 16:15, link to live stats
