With the Under 20 Men already in the National Cup semi-final, our senior men and Under 18 Boys also progreessed to make it 3 from 3 in the Men’s competitions. SSE Airtricity Moycullen progressed to the President’s Cup semi-final with a hard-fought win over St Vincent’s BC in Dublin on Saturday night. Paul Freeman (18) and Ronan O’Sullivan (17) led the scorers and James Loughnane found his range to add an impressive 14. Semi-final opponents are Titans who beat Maree in a physically tough match on Saturday night.
Our Under 18 Boy’s won a thriller against current cup champions Templeogue on Sunday evening in front of a full house in the Jes. A good Templeogue team were ahead for most of the match but Moycullen took control late on led by a fine display by Rory Heffernan at the point. This was all the more impressive as International players Kyle Cunningham and Connor Curran were fouled out in the 4th quarter. Joseph Tummon top-scored with 20, Rory added 15 and Connor Curran contributed 12. Brilliant D in the final quarter got the home crowd going and was crucial in the win. The lads face Fr Matthews in the semi.
In Women’s Cups NUIG Mystics also progressed with a good win over Killester in Oranmore.
Details of the semi-finals will be made known by Basketball Ireland during the week. The plans will be of big interest to lots of players but especially to the players in all 3 squads.
