Our U12 Boys travelled to the Parochial Hall in Gurranabraher, Cork for their first Cork County Board Tournament on Saturday 10th February.
The lads were in a group with two Cork teams; Fr. Mathews & St. Anthony’s with the top 2 guaranteed a 1/4 final later in the day. The first game up was against Fr. Mathew’s which tipped-off at 9:50am. Despite the early start the lads put in a really good performance and finished very well on the fast break to take the win against their Cork opponents.
After a 45 minute break, they were back in action when they played St. Anthony’s. The lads had another good start to the game but the scoring dried up a bit in the 2nd and 3rd quarters while Anthony’s were able to get some easy scores. Despite this the lads worked really hard and were able to finish the game in a positive manner.
This meant that they finished second in the group and would face Eanna from Dublin in the 1/4 finals. The Dublin outfit were a really good team and finished very well around the basket. Despite ultimately losing the game, the lads fought all the way through and settled much better in the 2nd half and were able to get some really nice scores and improve on defense.
The hard work that the lads are putting in is beginning to pay off; they have 2 games remaining in the Galway League and a number of Blitzes to play so they still have an action packed few weeks and finish to the season.
Many thanks to the drivers; Mike, Virgil, Collette, Tony, Michelle & Fiona for getting the lads to Cork and providing great support over the course of the day. Special word of thanks to Team Manager Michelle for all her hard work and to Mike & Nollaig for their coaching of the lads.
