Congratulations to Moycullen’s U16 Team who won the Galway League Final on Thursday, beating Maree 43-37. This completes their Galway league campaign for 2016, where the team won all their matches, and now qualify as top seeds from Galway for the AICC tournament.

In a final where defences were to the fore, Moycullen took a 14-8 lead after the first quarter, with 8 points coming from the free throw line. The second quarter was tied at 6-6, with Moycullen then taking a 20-14 lead into the second half.

The third quarter started well for Moycullen, with a succession of baskets stretching their lead to 29-15. Maree fought back well at the end of the quarter with a 6-0 run, and narrowed the lead to 31-24.

In the final quarter Maree, with 2 quick 3-pointers, reduced the Moycullen’s lead to 3 points. Moycullen responded well to stretch out their lead to 10 points,  before Maree finished the scoring with a three pointer.

The team now looks forward to the AICC which takes place on the weekend of April 16th-17th in Cork, where they will compete in their group against teams from Dublin and Cork. The draw for the AICC is shown below, with Moycullen in Pool 2, where the winner of each pool progresses to the All Ireland Semi-Finals.
