Gerald Lyons’ team traveled to Athlone in August to play the in national Community games U16 basketball finals. The lads had just come off easy wins in the Connacht section and travelled in confidence. They beat a strong Malahide team in the semi final on the Saturday overcoming a very slow start to pull away by the end winning by 10. The final against St Patricks from Cavan never reached the same heights as the Malahide game as the boys were in control throughout. All of the team contributed greatly over the course of the weekend but special mention must be given to James Lyons who put in two great back to back performances.
