Moycullen Boys Dominate U17 Blitz

Sunday saw two good team performances from the Moycullen Under 17 team against Titans & Maree in the Jes in the Galway League.

First up for the lads was Titans at 10:30.

Suffocating full court defence by Moycullen to start the game led to fast break scores which give the team a great start and an early lead which they weren’t to relinquish. With Rory Heffernan moving the ball well on offence, his team mates and in particular Max, Conor & Ronan, were the beneficiaries of his vision and unselfishness. Sean Kelly was having a super game on both ends of the floor and there was no let up in the intensity from the lads as they continued to play a fast up-tempo game. Joseph continued his early season form and was proving to be a real handful for the opposition on both ends of the floor, his hard work this year is really beginning to pay off and some of his inside moves were superb. Overall a good performance and a solid start to the day

The second game of the day was against Maree

A thunderous dunk from Joseph Tummon on the very first offence set the tone for the team and for the game. Once again excellent full court defence had the Maree guards under constant pressure and when they did get a look at the basket it was nearly always a tough contested shot. With Moycullen doing an excellent job under the defensive boards they were able to get their running game going which like the first game led to some well taken fast break opportunities.

Rory once again did a great job from the point guard position; the ball was always getting to the open man for some good looks and anytime the option wasn’t available on the perimeter, Joseph was on hand inside. Throughout the game he was a big presence and anytime the Maree defence doubled him, Kyle was on hand to punish them. Like the first series of games, Ronan’s long range shooting was deadly accurate and with Conor & Max constant thorns on defence the lads continued to play with great focus and intensity to see out the win

The results from Sunday mean that Moycullen have won all their games in the two blitz’s so far.

Team on the day was Joseph Tummon, Rory Heffernan, Sean Kelly, Kyle Cunningham, Ronan Clancy, Conor Curran & Max Brennan
