U-14 Boys Galway Cup Champions!

Moycullen U-14 Boys excellent start to the new season continued as they  captured the Galway Cup on Sunday morning in an exciting final against Maree. Following a semi-final victory against Titans the previous day, they started well to take a 12-8 lead in the first quarter, and extended this to 28-14 at the end of quarter two. Maree rallied well in the third quarter, which featured some fine scores by each side – including many excellent three-pointers. Moycullen finished strongly to win by 45 to 25.

The team played in the annual Cork County Board Tournament on November 23rd, in what was a very competitive and entertaining tournament. For their first game, Moycullen faced favourites (and eventual winners) Neptune, and played some really good basketball before going down by 38 to 20.

Moycullen’s strong defence keeping Liffey Celtics in check

In the quarter-final, the were up against Liffey Celtics, and in an outstanding performance, won by 36 to 23. The semi-final against Blue Demons was one of the ties of the tournament. Moycullen got off to a cracking start, and led after the first quarter. Demons narrowed the gap and led by only four points going into the final quarter. Despite a great effort, Moycullen eventually went down by 37 to 28, but the narrow margin of defeat shows how close the team are now to coming out on top of their Cork rivals.

The team has also performed well in the league, as they top the group after two wins, against Maree (home) and Titans (home). So really well done to all the squad, who have put in super efforts in training since September. Lots to look forward to in the second half of the season, with the remainder of the league campaign, and a trip to play Dublin opposition also planned.
