Timmy McCarthy Announced as MC for 60th Gala Dinner

We are delighted to announce that Tim McCarthy will serve as MC for our 60th Gala Dinner, taking place on September 19th at the Galway Bay Hotel.

A fantastic addition to what promises to be a truly magnificent evening, Tim will help guide us through a special night as we celebrate the club’s rich history and exciting future.

Tim McCarthy Bio

Tim McCarthy has operated at the highest levels in the business, sports and media worlds.

Tim was inducted into Basketball’s Hall of Fame in 2023.

Tim has commentated for RTE on Olympic Basketball at the past 6 Olympic Games, 1 Paralympic Games, on GAA matches for the Sunday Game, on golf at major European Tour events, and was an on-course commentator at the Ryder Cup in the K Club in 2006.

In his playing career he made 103 appearances for Ireland at Olympic and European level, and captained the team on 58 occasions, while he won every domestic honour in the game with his club Blue Demons of Cork including captaining them to Irelands only club international success in 1983.

He also coached Ireland men’s team in the European Championships, thus being part of an elite group of people to have both been captain and coach of their senior national team in any sport.

He coached 5 club or school basketball teams throughout his career, all of them to national titles from underage to senior.

On the GAA fields he coached St Bridgids to win a senior Roscommon football championship, St Finbarrs in Cork to win a senior Cork hurling championship and Wexford and Tipperary intercounty footballers and Thomas Davis Senior ladies in Dublin.

Tim set up The McCarthy Consultancy in 2016 which provides confidential services in Executive Coaching, Business Consultancy and Communication Coaching after over 20 years of holding CEO roles in Banking and Financial Services.
