The Maigh Cuilinn U13 Girls team enjoyed a superb trip to France over the Easter weekend to compete in the Euro Jeunes Côte d’Opale Basket Calais.
The opportunity to play against some top quality teams from France, Belgium and Luxembourg competing in the tournament, meet players from around Europe and enjoy some French culture proved a big success.
The standard was extremely high and the girls acquitted themselves really well. While they will have to wait for another trip to earn that first victory on the continent, their general enthusiasm and hard work did not go unnoticed by tournament organisers who awarded Maigh Cuilinn with the ‘Equipe Fair Play’ award by the President of COB Calais Davis Pez and the Mayor of Calais Natacha Bouchart at the closing ceremony.
All in all it was a hugely successful trip and the girls are raring to get back practising and putting some of the things learned on the court into action for next season.
Well done to the coaches Fionn Shelly and Mary Walsh plus assistant coach Adrian Devane and all the parents of the girls who made the trip possible.
We have some photos and videos from the trip here on Facebook
