Well done to our U14 Boys led by their head coaches Máirtín Conneely and Evan Somers who won three of six games at the U14 All Ireland Club Championships 2023 over the weekend of 1 / 2 April.

Maigh Cuilinn earned the right to represent Galway (alongside Annaghdown Vikings) at the AICCs after a stellar Galway League season that saw the group enter two even teams that finished 2nd and 4th respectively in local league play.

The lads got off to a difficult start with loses to St.Anns of Kerry and then Sligo All-Stars but showed great battling spirit to refocus for the final group game on Saturday and edge out Castlebar Comets in a cracker of a contest.

A good night’s rest before a demanding set of Sunday fixtures saw them defeat Longford Phoenix and then Donegal Town to book a spot in the ‘C’ final of the weekend.

What transpired was a great back and forth that could have gone either way against an excellent Belfast Phoenix side. In the end, the lads from the north came through as winners by the slimmest of margins, 33 to 32.

Our boys were naturally disappointed in the moment to only be picking up silver medals but their performances and conduct throughout the weekend made for a very proud club back home following along and hopefully they’ll realise their great achievement in the days to come.

Given this is a group where the teams were split evenly for Galway League and we have plenty of talented players at the grade who didn’t even get the chance to travel this weekend, this is definitely a team to look out for in the years to come!
