Moycullen’s U18 Boys enjoyed a great run in the National Cup which ended on the road today (Sunday 27 February) against Limerick Celtics in the National Cup Quarter Final.
Having come through a dramatic qualifying tournament, including a sensational win over hot favourites Father Matthews from Cork, the team, who have struggled with consistency at times this year, couldn’t find top form against the favoured Limerick Celtics.
Moycullen began their U18 National Cup campaign the weekend of 29/30 January 2022 with a qualifying tournament hosted by our fellow Galwegians Annaghdown Basketball Club.
The lads put in some fantastic displays against Annaghdown and Phoenix BC of Belfast to emerge from Group 2a before crossing over with Group 2b which consisted of Fr. Mathews of Cork, St. Brendan’s of Tralee, St. Paul’s of Killarney, Ulster University Tigers.
With only two teams to come out of the combined cross over between Groups 2a and 2b, Moycullen did just that and became one of only 16 teams left standing in the country for the quarter final stages.
