Our U13’s travelled to Cork last Saturday 6th October to play in the Cork County Board Tournament. A hard tournament to prepare for as it’s very early in the season, nevertheless the team went down looking to put in some good performances with which they could build on for the rest of the season.

Dara
An early start for the lads saw they arrive in Cork to play a very strong Dublin Lions outfit who had won the U12 tournament last season. It was certainly a baptism of fire for the team.
While the lads were very noticeably physically outmatched at every position they battled hard throughout the game and by the third quarter they were able to get some stops which allowed them to create some scoring opportunities on the fast break. The power and size of the Dublin outfit was too much to overcome for the team but a lot of lessons learnt by all the players.

Eoin
Onto the 2nd game of the day when they faced another Dublin team in Eanna who like Lions were a tough outfit.
Having played Eanna last year in the U12 Cork Tournament, the team knew another big physically strong team was waiting for them. A far better display from the team saw them compete throughout and make Eanna work for their victory.
A much more determined effort on defence from every player allowed them to get some great fast break scores.
That extra effort on defence translated to much better ball movement and patience throughout on offence giving the lads better scoring opportunities and they were able to engineer some fine scores during the game.

Daniel & Mark
While the team came away disappointed with the results they can be very proud of their attitude throughout the day; rather than give up when playing against quality opposition that were much bigger, all the team really dug deep and battled hard throughout the two games.
Hopefully they’ll continue that hard work and be able to put the lessons learnt into practice during the upcoming games in the Galway League. Well done lads the club are very proud of you all!!!!!!!
The team are back in action very soon as they start their Galway League campaign. This month when they play their first game against Maree on Sunday week 21st October. The game is scheduled for 12 noon in Corrandulla.
Many thanks to all the parents who travelled down to support the lads and to Michelle, Mike & Nollaig for all their work. And a special word to Oisin who celebrated his birthday down in Cork; Happy Birthday Oisin.
