Moycullen in Ardres 2017

Moycullen faced off against Slovenian side Krvavec in their first game – not an easy start to tournament play. Maybe it was good we met these guys first up. The Slovenian team ended up in the final against Madrid (losing 27:41). They would give Paul Kelly & the lads a run for their money. It was a real baptism of fire. We tried but were well off the pace. Krvavec were emptying the bench before long. A lot of long faces after that one. Nice pic of the tip-off though.

Next up was Anvers (Antwerp). A very good side Anvers. Not a big side (bigger than us) but they moved the ball very well & had some really skilful players. Think we were still reeling from the first game and never got into it. The lads kept it going to the final whistle.

I think a nights sleep after the defeats the day before did our lads good. You could tell they were well up for this one even in the warm-up. Ardres had just got hammered by Madrid before this as well (Madrid won the competition in the end). So both teams out to prove a point. In fairness ,Ardres created a good few scoring opportunities but just didn’t convert. We were in control by the half and just kicked on from there. It was nice to get a good win, loads of the lads on the scoresheet etc. Final score – BC Ardres II 6 Moycullen 35

Paddy lays it on the line…

Moycullen 8 Belgrade 26
Although we ended up getting well beaten in the end the first half of this game was the highlight of the tournament for me. Belgrade were a strong side. They were edged out by 4 points in their group to the team that ended up finishing third in the tournament so no shame in going down.

on the march….

All in all, a great experience for the lads that will stay with them always
