Last Saturday, 2nd July, Moycullen Under 13 Girls Community Games Basketball Team were crowned Connaught Champions after a competitive but comprehensive 24 – 15 victory against the Roscommon Champions, Boyle. The Connaught finals were hosted this year by Roscommon and the Basketball finals were played in Castlerea where Moycullen started the day with a semi final match against the Mayo Champions, The Quay of Ballina, against whom they were victorious with a score line of 16-11. Their Community Games journey began on 11th May with a 25-13 win against their good friends and neighbours Oughterard. This was followed by a 39 -15 victory over Oranmore-Maree in the County Final. Their next outing was in the Connaught quarter final on 28th June against the Sligo Champions Bunnanadden over whom Moycullen prevailed with a score line of 21– 4. Moycullen now progress to the National Finals in Athlone on the 20th/21st August where they face the Ulster Champions in the All Ireland Semi Final. As with many other Moycullen teams of the past and present they play with a very disciplined style and combine strong technical ability with lots of energy to produce very composed and entertaining performances.
