U16 Irish Girls finish 11th.

Ireland finished 11th from 17 countries in Euro 2014 in Tallinn Estonia. With a bit of luck, the team might have finished higher but several things conspired against that. They will look back on their seven games and feel that only Poland were out of their reach – the other defeats were a case of what might have been as this group of talented girls were more than capable of beating Switzerland, Finland and Lithuania. Aine & Catherine both had fine tournaments and played in all seven of the games, Catherine having a MOTM game against Finland & Aine doing likewise against Austria. The highlight was undoubtedly the “Must win” game versus Romania when all of the team played exceptionally well keeping Romania’s two star players very quiet. This was a huge step up in every sense, a 12 day camp, few rest days, early morning training sessions, pasta & chicken followed by more pasta & chicken, playing against Europe’s elite, highs & lows in terms of performance, video & one2one feedback sessions but at the end of it all, great memories & friendships that will last forever. In the end, a marvellous German team beat an English squad that Ireland had beaten twice in three starts back in April.

Overall, the girls did themselves & Moycullen proud and will have benefitted greatly from the experience!
