A full house at the Jes saw SSE Renewables Moycullen go down fighting to Cup winners and League leaders Demons Saturday night in their last game of the season. Moycullen started sluggishly and were 21 points down at the half. However a much improved second-half performance gave the full house plenty to cheer about. Led by the League’s top scorer Mike Callaghan, the whole team upped the intensity and while Moycullen outscored their rivals in the second half, they never got the deficit down to single digits. Incredible full-court defence by Demons saw them commit NO personal fouls in the final quarter.
Despite having lost 5 key players from last season, this young team has developed so well under the guidance of Salva Camps. They have kept the flag flying and finished 9th in the top league in the country. We can look forward to another season of top class basketball in Galway next year.
RESULT: SSE Renewables Moycullen 68 (23) (M Callaghan 30, R O’Sullivan 14, D Cunningham 13) UCC Demons 84 (44) (L Colbert 23, K Hosford 14, S Coughlan 8) More details later.
