Moycullen 35 : Claregalway 33
Jesuit Hall, Sea Road, Nov 19th.
Having fallen to Maree the previous week, Moycullen u15 boys were keen to get their season back on track at home against Claregalway.
However, it was the visitors who started brighter, creating problems for Moycullen and forcing turnovers. This coupled with sloppy start defensively saw the home side trail 14 – 5 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Great team defense saw the lads cut into the lead, holding Claregalway to only 3 points for the entire 2nd quarter. Good scoring from new Moycullen players Evan Summers and Padric Lenihan brought the deficit to only 2 points at the half time break.
Moycullen started the 2nd half as they finished the 1st with good full court defense, which in turn created scoring opportunities for Dairmuid Mulkerrins and James Lyons. Moycullen took their first lead of the game with the 3rd period expiring.
The game remained tight for the rest of the game with the teams trading score for score. It was Mulkerrins who came away with the defining basket. A great full court lay to put Moycullen up by one with only seconds to go.
Moycullen delighted to come away with the hard fought win, against a team they have never beaten before at this age.
